A pre-hanami picnic

By sweetreat in , , , ,

Although it's supposed to be Springtime in Japan now, it's still pretty damn cold. I didn't really pack any warm clothes either so I'm just layering most of my clothes now :( The Sakura are pretty late this year too it seems. We decide to have a picnic anyway and head to the park nearby!

Legend has it that if you ride this with your beloved you'll be calling it quits  very soon haha

Hello Nippon!

By sweetreat in , , ,

After a long and gruelling 16 hour trip, we finally made it to Japan! Honestly don't remember it taking that long to get there but at least we had some interesting company along the way. We met a stripper from Queensland who kept us entertained with her crazy stories in the club, mainly involving foot fetishes and S&M haha.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by students from Seikei who helped us get to our dorm! They even held mini welcome signs (I've always wanted to see that coming out of the airport!!) And naturally the first thing we go and do is to take purikura!

By the time we arrive at the dorms, it's pretty late we're absolutely exhausted.. but the current inmates seemed pretty eager to meet us so we did our best to communicate in broken Japanese and English. So far most of the exchange students are from Australia (yay!) Everyone seemed lovely so really looking forward to getting to know everyone better :)

The Good, The Bad & the Ugly

By sweetreat in , ,

Today I woke up early to get my Visa done for our trip to China (only a month now!). Also I needed more time to make myself pretty since I needed to take a passport photo too.. but as per usual, they ended up super fugly! Has anyone ever had a flattering passport/license photo? :(

So this is how I wished my photos turned out!

Good old iPhone... never lets me down :')

Well it wasn't as bad as my passport photo back in primary school. I got the weirdest looks from the airport staff whenever I traveled around after high school. On one occasion the guy actually did a double take and called one of the other staff members to look at it too. Gosh, embarrassing much? I was super chubbs back in the day, but I lost a lot of it after changing my diet.. Anyway I was so relieved to renew my passport last year and get an updated photo of my face! :D

Unfortunately my girlfriends weren't able to go through with their visas because they needed birth certificates.. but we spent the rest of the day walking around Chapel looking for birthday supplies for my girlfriend's 21st. Can't wait! :)

My gf borrowed some dessert recipe books for her birthday :)
So we set off on our journey to look for party supplies!

First trip of 2012

By sweetreat in , ,

Every year my friends and I get together for an epic road trip (usually the final R&R before having to go back to uni). So this time we headed to Phillip Island for a few days to hit the beaches :) There were about 13 of us and we all shared a house near the beach. Don't you just hate it when the house doesn't end up looking anything like the pictures on the booking site? Haha, but it was nice and cosy anyway!

Overall it was a nice and relaxing couple of days. Just had fun scoping out the town, laying on the beach and enjoying each other's company. Not much drinking this time around either, which means no incriminating photos! haha

Sydney Adventures pt.3

By sweetreat in , , , ,

For dinner we dined at Makoto, a sushi train restaurant. I'm not a big fan of sushi trains because the majority of my experiences haven't been very pleasant. Often, the sushi tasted like it had gone around the tracks at least a hundred times and there usually isn't much variety either. Makoto, on the other hand was fresh and delicious everytime. :)

Sushi chefs in front of us the whole time.

Eel sushi, always a must!
Didn't really know what this was, but it tasted a little cheesy.. not sure if I liked it.

Soft shell crap wasn't bad.

Walked all the way to the Harbour Bridge. Finally our mission is complete!
As we walked back to our hotel, we were surprised to find that the cute cafe we wanted to try out earlier in the day was still open. I kid you not, this is one of the cutest cafes EVER! It's beautifully decorated with vintage furniture and motifs, and it even has a section at the back dedicated to cute korean style stationery. I swear I would visit this place everyday if it ever came to Melbourne! Ahhh cute cute cute~

Stationery!
Cute homemade cookies!

Even their coffee cups were awesome!

They made an awesome Green Tea Latte!

Miss this place already.. ;(

Sydney Adventures pt.2

By sweetreat in , , , , ,

After brunch at Chef's Gallery, we happened across Cupcakes on Pitt. I remember when the cupcake shop first opened up in Melbourne Central. It was the hottest thing on the block and everyone wanted a giant cupcake for their birthday. Sure enough though, cupcake shops started popping up all over town and the hype eventually died (kinda like the macaron fad right now). Anyway I haven't had a cupcake in a while so I wanted to see how Sydney cupcakes fared against Melbourne's. Yes it's always a competition between the both of us lol.

Sundae cupcakes! Never seen those in Melbourne so points for originality :)

Cute box :)
We settled for caramel and cherry ripe! Was a bit disappointed that nothing tasted like cherry ripe except for the actual bar on top. Caramel was alright though.

After that we finally made it to Bondi beach! Went for a walk on the beach and visited the nearby markets. Scored myself a cute Marc Jacobs top for cheap, yay!

Bondi Markets
A baby ukelele!
As we wandered around Bondi we came across Miss Chu's. I know one recently opened up in Melbourne but have been a little hesitant to go after hearing how much they charged per rice paper roll. But the shop interior lured me in like a fly to neon lights haha. Wasn't too bad though, and those coconut shakes were seriously awesome!

Cutest menu!
Just like a tuckshop!
Funky bowl lights
Vegie because that's all that was left :(
Seriously loving the decor!

Not bad!

Again we accidentally found another popular joint. Azuma Patisserie! :)
Tried the Earl grey Chiffon cake, and it was divine.
