I miss Mum's cooking

Since coming to Japan, my friend and I have been seriously craving food from the motherland. So after a trip to the international grocers, we were finally able to gather the necessary ingredients to make rice paper rolls! We decided to invite everyone else in the dorm to try these awesome rolls. :)

Although we're already members the international club, we decided to look around to see what else was available.
Oh and I learnt a very interesting word today, "チャライ" (charai) which I've come to understand means something like a player/playboy. Apparently in Japan the tennis club, snowboard club and basketball clubs are well known for being "チャライ" lol

Something I've realised about the Japanese is that they put a great deal of emphasis on school club activities. Basically everyone joins a club or circle once they enter university; whether they decide to continue with their high school club activities or pursue other interests, pretty much all students will end up in a club! Throughout the beginning of the school year there are tonnes of events and students running around promoting their clubs, which is quite an amazing site considering there are over 200 clubs. We came to school once to see a sea of club members with signs and pamphlets ready to attack any first years that came their way. I wish the students were this enthusiastic back at home! :)

Cooking adventures pt.1

Today was a horrible rainy day! So I decided to stay in and cook for a change.

Today we went to meet a fellow exchange student from Melbourne (sometimes I wonder if we even left the state haha) in everyone's favourite Otaku hub, Akihabara! As soon as we step out of the station we spot the AKB48 cafe with a lengthy queue outside the entrance.
There are maids EVERYWHERE! In all different kinds of costumes and colours handing out leaflets for their cafe. Plus they're all extremely cute so it's hard to choose one. Think I'll do a bit of research first.
We found some interesting albeit somewhat disturbing shops in this area. Eventually we came across a purikura with rentable cosplay outfits. Of course we had to try! :)
